Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The city of Hamburg wants to quickly tackle the necessary work on the currently closed sports hall in Hamburg.

"The question is how do we get the hall back into use quickly," said Sports Senator Andy Grote (SPD) on Wednesday at the "Sports, Medicine and Health Summit 2021" in Hamburg.

The congress for sports medicine and health will be held online in the Hanseatic city until Saturday.

The hall in the Winterhude district, which was completed in 1968, was closed last week due to defects in the roof structure that were discovered during the technical test for the renovation of the concrete facade.

Among other things, the second division handball players of HSV Hamburg are affected, who play their games in the training hall at the Volkspark until further notice.

"We are in very close contact with the club," said Grote.

Grote also commented on the Elbdome planned by a private investor.

With a capacity of 8000 to 9000 seats, this is a hall with the right size for the HSV handball players and the basketball players of the Bundesliga club Hamburg Towers, emphasized the Senator.
