Bremen (dpa) - Those responsible at Werder Bremen have clearly spoken out against the Super League planned by twelve European top teams.

"I was horrified," said sports director Frank Baumann on Tuesday.

“Not at all about the announcement, because the threatening backdrop has been around for many years.

I was horrified by the reason, "said Baumann.

"That shows that some men did not understand the game."

Twelve top European clubs, including Liverpool FC, Real Madrid and Juventus Turin, announced the establishment of a billion-dollar Super League on Monday night.

This would be in direct competition with the Champions League of the European Football Union.

Real boss Florentino Pérez said, among other things, that the new competition would save football because otherwise it would get into financial difficulties.

“Personally, I don't think the Super League is coming, but that the discussions have damaged football,” said Baumann.

Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt also spoke out against the plans.

"I reject any form of participation in competitions that does not result in sporting success," said Kohfeldt.

“That goes against the purpose of the game.

Then it's show business and that wouldn't be good. "
