The verdict against police officer Derek Chauvin, who had his knee against George Floyd's neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds before Floyd died, will be read out between 22.30 and 23.00 Swedish time, reports Reuters.

US President Joe Biden said earlier in the day in a statement that he would like to see them reach the "right" conclusion.

"The right one"

- I pray that the verdict is the right one.

"I think the evidence is overwhelming, that's my opinion," Biden told a gathering of the press on Tuesday.

He pointed out that he felt free to speak openly about his views as the jury now closed in to deliberate.

Joe Biden is said to have talked to Floyd's family members who feel "pressured and worried".

Risks 40 years

According to the prosecutor, it is clear that Chauvin caused Floyd's death through violence.

The defense, for its part, has claimed that the police followed the rules when intervening against the black 46-year-old man and has put forward other theories about the cause of death.

Chauvin is charged with three murder-like counts, which in English are called second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

If convicted of the most serious charge, he risks up to 40 years in prison.

The intervention against Floyd in May last year was filmed and his death triggered a wave of protests against racism and police violence around the world.
