“During the visit of Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei to Switzerland, a meeting was held with WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, during which he confirmed Belarus’s firm intention to continue work on completing negotiations on joining the WTO,” the statement said.

It is specified that the Belarusian diplomat spoke about the work carried out by Minsk to join the organization and about the "current state of the negotiation process with key WTO member countries."

“It was noted that Belarus is the largest economy among the countries at an advanced stage of negotiations, and its early accession meets the interests of both Belarus and all WTO members,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry added.

In August 2019, it became known that the work on Belarus' accession to the WTO was entering the final stage.
