April 20, 2021 The 55 associated federations and participants in the Uefa Congress that ended this afternoon in Montreux, Switzerland, unanimously voted a statement underlining how "the Uefa Congress is firmly convinced that the 'Super League' must be closed against the very concept of what must be European: unified, open, supportive and based on sporting values. Uefa and its affiliated federations believe in a truly European model based on open competitions, solidarity and redistribution to ensure sustainability and development gambling for the benefit of all and the promotion of European values and social results ".

"The conspiratorial clubs obviously failed to see that their status today was not achieved in isolation, but rather was part of a dynamic European system where large, medium and small clubs all contributed to everyone's successes and losses - the note continues -. It is an affront to European values and sporting merit for them to presume that they have the right to 'separate' and claim the legacy they have all built. "

"Uefa, its member associations and all those who love football are steadfast and will resist and fight vigorously against this move by the owners of these clubs and their supporters to the maximum extent possible. We know morally what is at stake and we will protect football from a selfish clan that doesn't care about the game. We are European football. They are not. "

The poll in Italy: 55% of the fans agree

The new Super League project, which sees Juventus, Milan and Inter between the participating teams, divides the Italian fans. 45% of Italian fans, in particular, 35% of supporters of participating teams and 56% of excluded clubs are against the new European tournament. In general, 55% of fans are in favor.

This is what emerges from a survey conducted by IZI on the new competition. The survey also shows that the majority of all Italian fans would agree on possible sanctions for the participating teams. Only for a minority (46% of the fans of the three teams and 24% of the remaining clubs) is the provision legitimate and valid and should not entail sanctions by Uefa and Fifa against the 15 participating clubs, while the option to ban them from their respective national championships prevails in almost a quarter of the former (24%) and in about half of the latter (47%).

The claim by Uefa and Fifa of a substantial percentage of revenues from the new competition would be supported by 14% of the fans of the non-participating teams (and by as much as 20% of Juventus, AC Milan and Inter players). The provision of disqualification of the players from the competition of the national teams (European and World Cup) would instead be the best sanction for one in ten of the supporters of Inter, Milan and Juventus and for 15% of the other fans. According to the data that emerged, more than eight out of ten fans prefer to watch the matches on TV: the Super League does not seem to have the same appeal as less than 50% of fans say they want to follow it on TV, despite the fact that the new league is a purely television product . The survey was carried out on residents in Italy and the sample included 1,700 people, interviewed in Cati-Cawi mode and stratified with weighting constrained by sex, age group, region of residence.
