Dresden (dpa / sn) - With a view to Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU )’s trip to Moscow, the Saxon Greens have warned against a “cuddle course” with Russia.

Rather, the “resolute naming of lines of conflict” should be on the agenda, said Green leader Norman Volger on Tuesday in Dresden.

"A trip to Russia these days should be used to constructively point out current problem areas and to formulate clear expectations - the preservation of human rights and peace."

Volger referred, among other things, to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the situation of the imprisoned opposition member Alexej Navalny.

“There are clear conditions for cooperation with Russia.

If these are not met, cooperation cannot take place and, above all, we allies are clearly in favor of stricter sanctions by the European Union. "

Kretschmer, who is traveling to Moscow on Wednesday, repeatedly called for the sanctions to be lifted in Russia.

He defended his talks in Moscow: “Especially in difficult times you have to stay in dialogue.

Breaking off conversations does not automatically lead to solutions. "

In Moscow he also wanted to seek talks with people who were critical of the government.

The trip is mainly about the cultural relations between Saxony and Russia.

Kretschmer wants to open a joint exhibition of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Tretyakov Gallery with paintings from the Romantic period.
