Dortmund (dpa) - The Germany eight will not start at the rowing World Cup in Zagreb as originally planned.

Because Italy and Germany were only registered for the regatta from April 30th to May 2nd in the Croatian capital, there are no races in this boat class.

“It's a shame that the competition is canceled.

We wanted to get into a competition and training rhythm that we know from the years before Corona, ”complained trainer Uwe Bender.

This means that for the time being there is no chance for the DRV parade boat to rehabilitate itself for the disappointing fourth place at the EM in Varese (Italy) two weeks beforehand.

Instead, Bender is thinking about creating an alternative with an internal competition.

To prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the crew around batsman Hannes Ocik (Schwerin) only has the World Cups in Lucerne (May 21 to 23) and Sabaudia (June 4 to 6).
