Düsseldorf / Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - Düsseldorf and Duisburg want to continue their long-standing theater community.

As the Deutsche Oper am Rhein announced on Tuesday evening, its supervisory board unanimously voted for an extension of the cooperation that has existed since 1956.

"Subject to the approval of both city councils and local authorities, the future of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, jointly sponsored by the cities of Düsseldorf and Duisburg, would be secured until 2027."

Düsseldorf's head of cultural affairs, Hans-Georg Lohe, was optimistic that the city councils and local authorities would go along with it.

As before, a total of 258 performances will be given in both cities per season - 180 performances in Düsseldorf and 78 performances in Duisburg.
