When America lost the Vietnam War, it did so as part of a peace plan.

It was agreed with the communist Viet Cong in North Vietnam that they would prepare elections together with the western-oriented government of South Vietnam.

The ceasefire was to be monitored by international observers and a commission equally composed of the warring parties.

However, regardless of the success of this peace plan, it was already certain that the USA would withdraw its troops. Because that's what Congress in Washington had decided, and American voters had long been tired of the war. Nobody intervened when there was just as much fighting in the alleged armistice as before. What is happening in the Hindu Kush resembles what was happening in Vietnam in an oppressive way.
