Karlsruhe (dpa) - Artist Markus Lüpertz struggles with the consequences of the corona pandemic, but does not want to let the fun of life be taken away.

“It's been a year or two that are stolen from me.

I don't have as much time as maybe a younger person.

I really resent the disease. "

He himself feels privileged.

He is vaccinated, with his family and has a house with a garden.

But, he emphasizes to the dpa news agency: "I lack communication, I lack friends, I lack togetherness, I lack social issues."

Lüpertz will be 80 years old on April 25th.

Even if he can't celebrate his birthday big because of Corona, he says: “Survival is crucial enough - and to have turned 80, I think it's amazing.

I hope I still have a few more years because I'm not where I want to be and I haven't done what I ultimately want. "

According to his own admission, he is not afraid of old age and death - only that everything will come to an end.

But it is pointless to live to death.

"You can also live away from death."
