Restoration work was completed at the site of the accident where a limited express train derailed and killed 49 people in Hualien County, eastern Taiwan, and train operation resumed on the morning of 19th for the first time in 17 days after the accident.

On the 2nd of this month, a derailment of a limited express train in a tunnel in Hualien County, eastern Taiwan, killed 49 passengers and injured more than 200.

In this accident, a limited express train collided violently with the wall of the tunnel, so the railway authorities asked an expert to investigate whether it would affect the structure of the tunnel, but on the morning of the 19th, it was confirmed that it was safe. Train operation resumed for the first time in 17 days after the accident.

The first train that passed through the site after reopening was a regular train from Yilan to Hualien, which entered the tunnel where the accident occurred at a slow speed of about 40 km / h.

A truck fell onto the railroad track from a construction road on the slope next to it, which led to the accident, so a new fence was installed to prevent falling objects, which was not available before the accident.

The man who was driving the truck was involved in the construction to improve the safety of the slope near the site, and was charged with manslaughter on the 16th of this month, but the railway authorities who ordered the construction are in the safety management system. Due to criticism that there was a problem, the minister in charge, Lin Chia-lung, Director of Transportation, will resign on the 20th.
