Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Lower Saxony State Poverty Conference has warned of worsening poverty in the state as a result of the corona pandemic.

He assumes that there will be at least one full percentage point of additional poverty rate for 2020, said the managing director of the state poverty conference, Klaus-Dieter Gleitze, the German press agency.

Almost every sixth Lower Saxony is affected, it is about 1.25 million people.

Even before the pandemic, the poverty rate had risen by one percentage point to 16 percent.

He emphasized: "It is actually a scandal to have such a high poverty rate in Germany."
