The safety representatives have made a so-called 6: 6a report where it is required that an operating room, called the Op room, be repaired.

There are problems both with the work environment and with patient safety when the room is used for operations.

In the room, operations are performed where the patient is anesthetized.

The room, which is about 25 square meters in size, is occupied by half of the machines.

During operations, 7-8 people in addition to the patient can stay in the room, which makes it crowded.

High risk of fire

The operations are mostly conducted in the dark and open flame operations take place in the form of laser, diameter and radio frequency.

This means that the risk of fire is great when it is crowded, and there is oxygen in the room.

In addition, there is only one door out of the room.

This is how the safety representatives write about the risks of a fire:

"In this situation, evacuating eight people plus anesthetized patient on a slow-moving operating table, with an attached respirator and drip unit through a very small door with inward-opening door leaves, and further out into a narrow laundry scrub, entails a very large work environment risk, in addition to a significant lack of patient safety."

Staff has fainted

During long operations, it gets hot in the room and it has happened that staff have fainted or had migraine attacks during ongoing operations.

The shortcomings have been pointed out on several occasions but no action has been taken.

Safety representatives demand that another door be installed, that ventilation be improved and that something be done about the lack of space.

By 21 April, Region Jämtland Härjedalen must respond in writing to the requirements.
