Whether the virus was spread by the returning skiers or whether it was more due to the strong beer festival can hardly be reconstructed in retrospect.

At the beginning of March 2020, when hardly anyone in Germany wanted to admit the danger, the Bavarian town of Mitterteich celebrated very carefree.

On March 7th, the local brewery even ironically invited to the "mass oral vaccination".

Four days later, the authorities reported the first corona infections.

The virus spread rapidly, on March 18 the district office imposed a curfew in Mitterteich - the first in Germany.

Vain.

The Tirschenreuth district was hit harder by the first corona wave than any other in Germany.

The wave ebbed in May and there were only sporadic infections over the summer.

But of the 1,108 cases discovered in the first wave, 138 had died by early June.

The case mortality of 11.5 percent was so alarming that the Bavarian state government commissioned an investigation.
