From Monday April 19, Belgium is once again authorizing non-essential travel within the European Union.

They had been banned since early February.

Belgium was the only European state to have gone so far in these traffic restrictions.

However, it will not be so easy to return or leave the country.

Even if the borders reopen, Belgian residents prefer to wait before leaving.

This is the case of François, a French national.

He works as a storekeeper in Brussels.

I still have to take time off, in a fortnight that would be good.

It's been over a year since I returned to France, so I'm looking forward to it,

 ”he says.

Belgian and civil servant at the European Commission, Anne is delighted to be able to go on vacation very soon.

But remain cautious about possible changes: "

I am rather happy to see that the borders will reopen, but we have to see if they will not go back then.

I hope to go on vacation to France in June

.

Conditions to be respected

Theoretically, all European citizens can now enter or leave Belgium.

But you have to respect conditions.

Travelers must present negative PCR tests or remain in quarantine like almost everywhere in the Union.

The latest figures from the Belgian public health institute show that thousands of Belgians have not respected this exit ban in recent weeks.

But that travelers are also less contaminated than the rest of the population.
