Perleberg (dpa / bb) - The food-enjoyment-restaurants union (NGG) has called on the employees of the slaughterhouse of the Vion group in Perleberg (Prignitz) to go on a warning strike on Thursday.

Around 250 employees on the early shift should take part in the strike, as the NGG Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region announced on Wednesday.

This is supposed to put pressure on employers to conclude a collective agreement for the roughly 160,000 nationwide employees in the industry.

The collective bargaining was interrupted after three unsuccessful rounds at the end of March.

The warning strike in Perleberg is part of nationwide strikes in meat plants.

"The total of 550 employees in Perleberg demand that uniform tariff standards apply to the hard work in slaughtering and cutting," said NGG managing director Jörg Dahms.

Workers in cutting currently received up to 500 euros less than their colleagues in slaughtering.

Vion could not be reached for a comment at short notice.

The NGG is demanding a minimum wage of 12.50 per hour for workers in the meat industry, which should rise to 14 euros after a short training period, the union said.

The union demands an hourly wage of 17 euros for skilled workers.

The employers had recently offered starting earnings of 10.50 euros per hour, which should increase to 12 euros by the end of 2023.

The union rejects this as inadequate.
