Mainz (dpa / lrs) - In large parts of Rhineland-Palatinate, citizens are no longer allowed to leave the house at night without good reason due to Corona.

24 of the 36 independent cities and districts in the state currently exceed a corona incidence of 100. If this is the case for three days in a row, they are affected by the applicable "emergency brake" with nightly exit restrictions.

The planned “federal emergency brake” would also provide for this.

The topics of the day at a glance:

NEW FIGURES: Two independent cities had an incidence of 200 on Thursday: Ludwigshafen with 235.7 and Worms with 232.2, as the state investigation office in Koblenz announced.

The very sparsely populated Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm had the lowest value with 57.5.

The nationwide incidence rose slightly to 131.6 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days (as of 2:10 p.m.).

This is still the highest level since January 12th.

KIRN: In the community of Kirner Land (Bad Kreuznach district), a day care center and two schools have been closed until further notice due to a drastic increase in the number of corona infections.

The 7-day incidence was 511, as mayor Thomas Jung (independent) and the district's Corona staff unit announced.

HOSPITALS: The Rhineland-Palatinate Hospital Society announced on Thursday: "The stress in the intensive care units is increasing."

The Ministry of Health in Mainz asked the clinics in the country to postpone operations that are not absolutely necessary in order to have enough capacity for corona patients.

Emergencies are not affected.

Of the 164 Covid-19 patients currently being treated in intensive care units in Rhineland-Palatinate, 87 have to be ventilated invasively, according to data from the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine (Divi) on Thursday (as of 12.15 p.m.) ).

BEDS: According to the Ministry of Health in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate is “still in a top position” in a country comparison with a share of 20 percent free beds in intensive care beds (as of Thursday morning).

The increasing incidences, however, led to more admissions in the clinics with a delay of almost two weeks.

"In addition, there are signs that the length of stay in the intensive care units, which are now on average younger, is being prolonged due to the sometimes difficult courses," it said.

It is not intensive care beds and ventilators that are scarce, "but the staff who have been exposed to high stress since the beginning of the pandemic".

LANDESHAUPTSTADT: The city of Mainz is stopping face-to-face teaching in schools from grade five onwards from next Monday due to the sharp rise in the number of infections.

Mayor Michael Ebling (SPD) announced that there will only be emergency care at the day-care centers.

"We consider the situation to be as dramatic as we have never had it before in the pandemic."

Bookstores, DIY stores, gardening centers and flower shops are only allowed to open for individual appointments.

A test is compulsory for hairdressers, driving schools and extracurricular music lessons.

The curfew from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. remains in place.

The seven-day incidence - the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants - was 189.7.

VACCINATION CENTERS: The BASF vaccination center in Ludwigshafen started on the first day, according to the chemical company, on Wednesday with around 400 vaccinations.

"600 first vaccinations are planned for the next two days," said a spokeswoman.

Other companies are also considering a corona vaccination for their workforce.

Among other things, Daimler has set up a vaccination center for employees at the Wörth truck plant as a precaution.

The pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim is also planning to offer its employees a vaccination.

The situation is similar at the Mainz specialty glass manufacturer Schott.

According to its own information, the ZDF will also offer its employees a vaccination offer, “provided the conditions are met”.

EMERGENCY BRAKE: Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) has reminded of the emergency brake already decided by the Prime Minister in view of the increasing number of corona infections and the situation in the intensive care units.

"Rhineland-Palatinate is acting, we are not waiting for the federal emergency brake," said Dreyer of the German press agency.

«The number of infections is increasing significantly throughout Germany.

Only one federal state is below the critical value of 100. The alarm calls from the intensive care units cannot be ignored, ”warned Dreyer.

LUCA-APP: The six model regions selected by the state as well as a number of other circles are now using the Luca-App.

In the Ahrweiler district, 810 locations had registered by Wednesday evening, said a district spokeswoman in Mainz on Thursday.

6900 check-ins were also counted.

The circle was the first to start digital contact tracking in the corona pandemic via the app at the end of March.

“We are still waiting for activation, said the head of the Corona staff unit in Bad Kreuznach, Ron Budschat.

Like the Ahrweiler district, Bad Kreuznach is a model region.
