  • The Toulouse town hall considers that the Zénith car park is no longer suitable for hosting the Saint-Michel funfair, an autumnal tradition in the Pink City.

  • It ensures that no other location can be suitable.

  • Both annoyed and surprised, the fairgrounds do not intend to stop there.

No more merry-go-round, no spectacular attraction.

The traditional Saint-Michel funfair will not take place this fall in Toulouse.

Nor ever again

a priori

.

And nothing to do with Covid 19. "Elected officials from the town hall summoned us on March 31 to tell us that they could no longer welcome us in the Zénith car park and that there was no other solution. », Says Eric Daveque, the president of the organizing committee, as« disappointed »as surprised, only a few months before the kickoff.

At the Capitol, Cécile Dufraisse, the assistant in charge of the case, confirms both the appointment and the verdict.

“I understand the anger and disappointment of the fairgrounds,” she said, “but the Zénith car park was only a temporary solution and it is no longer suitable with the work in progress at the Cartoucherie.

We looked for another location of six hectares to accommodate both, or even separately, the fairground base and the rides, we did not find any ”.

Not even the Ile du Ramier, where the former Parc des Expos is living its last hours?

"It's in a flood zone, that would be taking too many risks" replied the elected official.

Between amazement and anger

The life of the funfair, which had no more Saint-Michel than the name since its forced migration from the city center to the Zenith ten years ago, has never been a long quiet river.

But the idea of an outright disappearance of this meeting which all Toulouse residents, young and old, keep memories, leaves Eric Daveque banned.

“We put 120 families on dry bread, like that, with a snap of the fingers.

We are craftsmen, we have credits, a business to run in an already particularly difficult period, ”he pleads.

Obviously, the fairground hopes that there is still room for maneuver.

And if there is not, obviously, "we will make ourselves heard," he warns.

"Farmers are demonstrating well in Toulouse, so ..."
