Graal-Müritz (dpa / mv) - An excavator sunk in the Baltic Sea off Graal-Müritz has been recovered.

After several hours of work, a huge crane was able to pull the special excavator out of the water on Wednesday.

As a spokesman for the water police said, the excavator suddenly collapsed underground and sank on Tuesday morning while building the groyne.

Only the upper part of the driver's cab could be seen.

Such holes in the sea floor are not visible, said the spokesman.

The driver was able to leave the driver's cab unharmed, and no water pollution was found.

To be on the safe side, oil barriers were also placed around the excavator.

An excavator had already sunk in the immediate vicinity at the beginning of March.

The water police see no reason to investigate this matter, said the spokesman.
