Berlin (dpa / bb) - The police reacted to a rally on Tuesday against the tightening of the Infection Protection Act in Berlin-Mitte with several arrests.

Numerous participants did not adhere to the applicable hygiene regulations, the officials said on Wednesday.

Nothing has changed in this regard, even after repeated requests by the police and the meeting leader.

So the emergency services intervened and pulled individual people from the crowd of around 400 participants on Heinrich-von-Gagern-Strasse after the start of the meeting on Tuesday lunchtime.

As a result, 58 demonstrators were provisionally arrested for resisting law enforcement officers, insulting, sedition, freeing prisoners and violating the infection control measures ordinance.

This resulted in 16 criminal investigations and 37 administrative offense proceedings.

Around 500 police officers were involved in the operation.
