Duisburg (dpa) - Black and white curly tails and cute button eyes - the Duisburg Zoo is happy about cute offspring in the Katta family.

The youngest member of the lemurs native to Madagascar is just two weeks old and no bigger than the palm of a human.

The sex of the little ball of fur is still unknown, and the katta child does not yet have a name, the zoo announced.

Nevertheless, both mother Katja and the other female group members of the sociable animals take care of the youngest offspring.

Cuddled up close to the mother, the ring-tailed lemur sleeps most of the time.

Only sometimes does it look out from under its mother's arm with dreamy eyes and observe its surroundings.

If it squeaks, the alarm goes off.

Then all the females of the very social lemurs move in to see if things are going well.

Father Hermann, on the other hand, observes the hustle and bustle from a distance.

"As usual with ring-tailed lemurs, the male is the lowest-ranking animal in the group and has little to report," reports one keeper.

In order to catch a glimpse of the well-protected young animal, one has to distract the mother with the favorite food: grasshoppers.

“For the first two to three weeks, the females carry their young on their belly.

You have to bring something tasty with you so that you can take a look at the baby. "
