April 14, 2021 The United States is preparing to leave Afghanistan.

"We went to that territory for a horrific attack that happened 20 years ago. That doesn't explain why we should stay there in 2021."

Thus Joe Biden explains the reasons for his decision to withdraw all troops by the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

It is time to "end America's longest war by leaving Afghanistan. We will continue to support the government, without military implications."

This is what the US president will say tonight in his speech according to the previews released by the White House.

"I am the fourth American president to lead the presence of American troops in Afghanistan, two Republicans and two Democrats, he will not pass this responsibility to a fifth".

"We cannot continue to extend the cycle or increase our military presence in Afghanistan hoping to create the ideal conditions for our withdrawal, waiting for a different result," Biden said.

Biden, however, will ensure that "diplomatic and humanitarian work" by the US will continue even after the military presence is over.
