Berlin (dpa / bb) - Corona vaccinations for many doctors and nurses also have an important psychological function from the point of view of a senior doctor in Berlin.

«I was afraid of Covid-19 every day.

This fear has been gone since the second vaccination.

That is really good, "said Hans Weigeldt, pandemic officer at the Bethel Berlin hospital in Lichterfelde, the German press agency.

At the same time, he emphasized that the vaccinated in the hospital should now be careful not to become negligent.

"I am currently aware of two cases in which patients were infected despite having been vaccinated twice, and they then had mild courses."

In the hospital, with regard to regular testing and the wearing of masks, the same procedure as before the vaccination, Weigeldt described.

Almost three quarters of the authorized staff would have used the vaccination offer.

"Unfortunately there were also some who did not want Astrazeneca and are now unprotected."

No vaccination protects 100 percent against infection;

However, the corona vaccination is considered protection against serious and fatal courses.

Until recently, vaccinated people also had to be in quarantine for 14 days if they had contact with an infected person, the doctor reported.

“The increased cases of children in daycare centers and schools made themselves felt in the absence of parents.

Many of our colleagues have children. "

For a few days, however, there has been a new recommendation from the Robert Koch Institute, according to which fully vaccinated people are exempt from quarantine.

Clinics should benefit from this: Specialized staff is considered to be scarce nationwide, especially for the care of patients in intensive care units.

“Working in intensive care is tough,” said Weigeldt.

In this area, departures and new hires were often in balance.

Weigeldt sees capacities for the admission of Covid-19 patients from other federal states in particular in the normal wards of the capital.

"In the intensive care units it can currently be seen that on average the younger patients lie there longer than the patients during the first and second waves."

The utilization of the intensive care units with Covid 19 patients in Berlin had recently increased rapidly - over the critical threshold of a quarter.

The clinic in Lichterfelde is one of the emergency hospitals that care for Covid-19 cases.

According to a plan by the Senate, the Charité locations care for the most severe cases as so-called Level 1 houses, further clinics will follow as Levels 2 and 3. "In the third wave, levels 1 and 2 in particular have so far been claimed," Weigeldt explained.

“As a Level 3 company, we are not yet so badly affected.

But overall we in Berlin are again approaching the maximum from the second wave in terms of numbers. "

Like many other doctors and scientists, Weigeldt advocates uniform regulations and a short, hard lockdown to lower the incidence, in order to make progress with the vaccination and to fine-tune a test strategy for the openings afterwards.
