Ottobrunn (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian start-up Isar Aerospace wants to launch its first rocket from Norway this year.

The company from Ottobrunn near Munich has secured a starting place on the Norwegian island of Andøya, as it announced on Wednesday.

The contract with the operator of the spaceport provides that Isar Aerospace can use the launch site exclusively for up to 20 years.

The maiden flight of the Spectrum rocket is also expected to take place there.

There is no exact date yet.

"The first launch is expected to take place in mid-2022," said the company when asked.

"That also depends on when the infrastructure is ready."

At the beginning of the year, managing director Daniel Metzler had named the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.

Isar Aerospace is one of several German providers who want to use relatively small rockets to bring satellites into orbit at low cost.

The competitors include the Rocket Factory Augsburg and the Baden-Württemberg Hyimpulse, both of which recently announced later dates for their first start.
