Los Angeles (AP) - Oscar winner Natalie Portman (39) wants to star in the planned adaptation of the novel “The Days of Abandonment” by bestselling author Elena Ferrante (“My ingenious girlfriend”) take.

The Israeli-American actress is also on board as a producer in the HBO Films studio project, as reported by the industry journal “Variety”.

The novel revolves around a woman with two children who is abandoned by her husband and falls into a dark abyss.

The American filmmaker Maggie Betts («Novitiate») writes the script and directs.

Portman had recently agreed to play a role in the planned TV series "Lady in the Lake" alongside Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o.

Portman, who last starred in the science fiction film “Lucy in the Sky”, won an Oscar in 2011 for her leading role in the ballet drama “Black Swan”.

Last year she founded MountainA to produce film and television projects.
