The Hamburg cultural authority is currently planning, in consultation with museums, theaters, the Elbphilharmonie and music clubs, to open selected cultural institutions as model projects in the pandemic - audiences are to be admitted with tried and tested and more sophisticated corona rules as soon as the incidence figures allow this and insofar as the Infection Protection Act of the federal government allows this, said Enno Isermann, spokesman for the cultural authority.

In principle, visiting cultural institutions with good ventilation systems is considered safe if the distance rules are observed.

In spite of uniform national rules through the new Infection Protection Act, the states remain responsible for opening decisions, unless the federal rules provide otherwise.

Therefore, Hamburg wants to follow the example of Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein and enable cultural life again as soon as possible.

Since today, April 14th, the museums in Munich that were open on a daily basis have been completely closed again.

Theaters in Kiel and Lübeck open on Monday

Against the federal trend towards exit restrictions, 13 cultural institutions in Schleswig-Holstein are allowed to reopen to visitors as early as next Monday, April 19.

The selected model projects under pandemic conditions include the Kiel Theater, the Lübeck Theater as well as the open-air theater and the Filmpalast Stadthalle Cinestar in Lübeck.

In addition, there are the Landestheater and the Low German Stage Flensburg, as Minister of Culture Karin Prien (CDU) announced on Tuesday.

Also included are the Flensburg theater workshop Pilkentafel, the Schloss Reinbek cultural center, the Laboer black-headed gulls and Filippo's adventure garden in the Plön district, the Elbeforum Brunsbüttel as well as the Rendsburger Ring adult education center and the Rendsburg Nordkolleg.

40 applications were received.

Karin Prien: "Art and culture are sorely needed"

"We need art and culture so badly, even in the pandemic," said Prien.

“Our step-by-step plan allows us to gradually open up culture - we initially did that with the museums.” Now, model cultural venues are also being opened.

There will again be performances and music events with an audience and further training with participants on site and not just virtually.

The minister emphasized that it was about creating perspectives for the public, for enjoying art and for those working in culture.

Model projects are possible if the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the respective district or in an independent city was previously below 100 for seven days in a row.

Schleswig-Holstein last had an incidence of 70.8 as of Monday evening, which is by far the lowest value of all federal states.

Only the district of Duchy of Lauenburg was well above 100, and the district of Segeberg was just above this critical mark.
