Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Füchse Berlin missed the hoped-for big step out of the crisis in the quarter-final first leg of the European League, but are still convinced that they will progress.

"I think we still have good chances for the second leg if we use our chances to win with three or four goals," said national handball player Fabian Wiede on Tuesday evening.

After the 29:32 away defeat in Montpellier / France, the Bundesliga team has to worry about the final four.

In the second leg next Tuesday (8.45 p.m. / DAZN) in Berlin, three or more goals must be won more.

For coach Jaron Siewert, the result did not reflect the course of the game.

"In the end, the result is too high for the chances we had," he said.

Because the game actually went on at eye level with the former Champions League participant for a long time.

«It was a superfight for both teams.

The game could have ended differently, ”said Wiede.

The Füchse coach therefore praised his team for their attitude: "We put everything we had into it until the last minute."

But the exploitation of chances made the difference in Montpellier.

"We just leave too many completely free throws that would have enabled us to have a clear lead," said Siewert.

His team missed several times in the second half to break away with two goals.

But before the foxes can worry about the second leg, the team has to compete in the Bundesliga at HSG Wetzlar on Thursday (7 p.m. / Sky).

The Hessians last surprised against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen, the Füchse lost three of the last four league games.

And the conditions are not ideal.

On Wednesday the team traveled to Wetzlar via Paris and Frankfurt.

So there is hardly any time to relax and prepare.
