The president of the deputies LR Damien Abad conceded Tuesday not to have "liked" the attitude of his group during the debate organized on euthanasia last week in the hemicycle, marked by the obstruction of some elected right-wingers.

"I did not like the debate on Thursday. I did not like our attitude in this debate either," he said at a press conference.

"There is no winner or loser in the face of death. We always lose in the face of death. The National Assembly is not a football stadium," he added.

The examination of the Falorni bill on the end of life, in the parliamentary niche attributed to the Freedoms and Territories group, took place in an electric atmosphere Thursday in the National Assembly.

It could not be completed for lack of time, faced with thousands of amendments tabled by a handful of right-wing deputies including several LR.

Mr. Abad reported having asked his colleagues, during the LR group meeting, to "find a climate of appeasement commensurate with our function" on social issues.

"I asked everyone to take their share of responsibility, I want to take mine too", he added while the group was crossed by serious antagonisms on this painful subject.

"Like most of the group, I have many more doubts than certainties on this subject," added the deputy for Ain.

Stressing again that the parliamentary niche was "not the right framework" for discussing euthanasia, Mr. Abad promised that, if the subject were to come back, the group would approach it differently with the establishment of a upstream working group.

"70% of the group has doubts like me. You can find points of convergence on palliative care," said Abad.

Questioned during the session of questions to the government on the fate in particular of this bill, the Minister of Relations with Parliament Marc Fesneau first recalled that "the right of amendment is a constitutional right which must be guaranteed and everyone in fact the use he wants ".

And to add: "We cannot have a selective look on the number of amendments according to whether it suits or that it would suit less".

"The government intends to continue the work started in the niche last Thursday," added the minister.
