Gronau (Leine) (dpa / lni) - An attentive bank employee in Gronau (Leine) in the Hildesheim district saved an 88-year-old man from fraud using the so-called grandchildren's trick.

A fraudster had pretended to be the grandson of the pensioner on the phone and pretended to need a low five-digit amount for an accident, the police said on Wednesday.

When the 88-year-old wanted to collect the money from his bank on Tuesday, a bank employee became suspicious and the man's real grandson was notified.

The police reported that the bank employee prevented worse things from happening.

There was no money handover.
