Dresden (dpa / sn) - There should be more places for medicine and teaching at Saxony's universities in the future.

This provides for a draft of the university development plan that the cabinet approved on Tuesday.

According to the Ministry of Science, there should be a total of 90 additional study places in the field of medicine at the universities in Saxony, and the number of study places in the teaching profession should be increased to 2,700.

The proportion of open-ended jobs at universities should also increase - to at least 40 percent.

According to the information, around 800 additional jobs are planned there from 2024.

The draft is now to be discussed by university committees, chambers and interest groups.

"With the expansion of university places in several subjects of public services, the Free State is clearly assuming social responsibility," said Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow (CDU).
