12 April 2021 Norwegian skier Anders Aukland, 48, Olympic relay champion in 2002, has set a new world record for distance covered on cross-country skis.

His result: 700 kilometers and 500 meters in almost 41 hours without stopping.

Aukland entered the race on Saturday morning with 27-year-old Joar Thele and 36-year-old Simen Østensen.

Anders didn't stop until late Sunday night, when he crossed the 700 kilometer mark.

Østensen gave up after having covered 550 kilometers, while Thele has covered 610.

In an interview granted to the local newspaper VG, the record holder said that in the first 24 hours they had traveled about 420 kilometers.

Then it became more difficult, due to a heavy snowfall.

And the last ten kilometers were particularly tough for him.
