Deggendorf / Passau (dpa / lby) - The Passau trial of the violent death of a young mother from Freyung in Lower Bavaria could be reopened - possibly with a sharper verdict.

The criminal chamber of the Deggendorf regional court has declared the prosecutor's request for retrial there admissible, as a judicial spokesman announced on Tuesday.

Now the Deggendorf Regional Court must decide separately whether the retrial application is well founded and whether the woman's ex-partner, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2017, will be tried again.

The prosecution assumes, based on new information, that the act could be murder instead of manslaughter.

According to the judiciary, two witnesses are said to have deliberately given false testimony in favor of the convicted person, for which both witnesses were legally convicted.
