Trips to Mallorca, the Germans' favorite holiday destination, had recently led to heated debates.

The federal government advises against unnecessary travel, but every day there are planes for the Balareninsel.

If you want to escape the lockdown in the sun, you need a negative corona test.

The test is also mandatory before the return journey.

If it turns out positive, quarantine is required for the holidaymakers concerned alone or together with their respective travel companions.

For this purpose, the Balearic Government has specially signed a "Corona Hotel".

Three days with no symptoms before anyone is allowed to leave

“Patients who have made a positive antigen test will be accommodated at the Hotel Palma Bay.

A PCR test is carried out on them to confirm the positive result, ”a spokeswoman for the health authority of the Balearic government told WELT when asked.

“The stay usually lasts around ten days, and patients have to be without symptoms for at least three days before they can leave.

If someone shows symptoms, another PCR test is carried out and the stay in the hotel is extended as long as necessary. "

The Meliá Palma Bay, a four-star congress hotel, currently accommodates 27 Germans as well as three other foreign tourists and five residents of the island, the spokeswoman further confirmed.

The spokeswoman could not say how many of the guests from Germany tested positive.

“During their stay at the hotel, they'll be called to their room every 48 hours to see how they're doing.

If you feel uncomfortable, an emergency team (

editor's note: ambulance

) will be sent, ”the spokeswoman said.

"In the hotel itself there is currently no permanent medical team, as the first thing is to isolate guests who otherwise cannot guarantee that."

It is not clear whether the guests can use the “fantastic location on the beach” and a “magnificent roof terrace on the seventh floor with a pool”, as advertised on the hotel's website, during the quarantine.

In any case, the Spanish region bears the costs for the accommodation of the isolated guests.

Visitors who test positive on Mallorca can, however, serve the quarantine in their hotel, holiday home or property at their own expense.

Some hotels have specially set up "Corona areas".

For almost two weeks there has been a general test requirement for all flights to Germany.

Returnees must be tested before departure.

Because of the regulations that apply throughout Spain, people who visit Mallorca or another Spanish region must also present a negative test when entering the country.
