China News Service, April 13th. According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean government expressed deep regret on Japan’s decision to discharge the Fukushima nuclear sewage into the sea on the 13th, and said that “all feasible measures will be taken” to protect the safety of South Korean citizens.

The South Korean side also stated that it requires the international community to scientifically verify the treatment of nuclear sewage by the Japanese side.

On the same day, the South Korean government, under the auspices of the head of the Office of State Affairs, Goo Yun-chul, urgently convened a vice-ministerial meeting of relevant departments.

At a press conference held after the meeting, Gu Yunzhe said that the government urged Japan to transparently disclose information on the Fukushima nuclear sewage treatment and verify the treatment measures.

On April 12th, local time, outside the prime minister's office in Tokyo, local people held a rally to protest the Japanese government's plan to discharge purified water from the disaster-stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea.

Gu Yunzhe said that the South Korean side will convey to the Japanese side the public opinion against this decision and require the Japanese side to take specific measures to ensure the safety of South Korean citizens and protect the marine environment from pollution.

At the same time, the South Korean side will convey to the international community such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) the South Korean side’s deeply worried position on this matter, and request the international community to scientifically verify Japan’s treatment of nuclear sewage.
