Kiel (dpa) - Holstein Kiel's President Steffen Schneekloth hopes that the season in the 2nd Bundesliga will end as planned despite the accumulation of corona cases.

That was “the ultimate goal”, he told the newspapers of the sh: z publishing house (Tuesday).

"It is still possible to complete the remaining game days in the weeks up to the last game day on May 23, even if for KSV Holstein only with English weeks."

Schneekloth's team is currently in quarantine for the second time within a short time after corona infections.

All players and the coaching team must isolate themselves by April 20th.

This puts the people of Kiel in a tight spot.

After the end of the quarantine, eight point games and the DFB Cup semifinals on May 1st at Borussia Dortmund are due for the fourth place in the table within four and a half weeks.

“It is clear that this will of course be a tight program,” admitted Schneekloth.

In addition to the Kielers, the teams from Karlsruher SC and SV Sandhausen are currently in quarantine.

In the first division, no team is currently affected by such measures, despite recent positive cases.

Schneekloth, who is also Vice President of the German Football League, does not see any unequal treatment of the teams.

He pointed out that the local health authorities decide.

"Maybe it seems like something is interpreted unevenly here and there," he said.

But there is one thing to keep in mind: "Each case has to be assessed individually."
