Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon cabinet wants to discuss an extension of the existing corona measures today.

Saxony's Minister of Health Petra Köpping (SPD) and government spokesman Ralph Schreiber had already announced this.

Accordingly, the existing rules and restrictions are to be retained until May 9, so as not to further unsettle people, it said.

Only then should possible changes due to the new version of the Federal Infection Protection Act be incorporated.

The state ordinance expires on Sunday (April 18).

Among other things, it provides for contact restrictions and shopping only with appointments and a negative test.

Schools and daycare centers also remain open with conditions regardless of the incidence.

However, if there are more than 1,300 Covid patients in the normal wards in the hospitals, the current regulation provides for a return to a stricter lockdown.

According to the Ministry of Health, 1101 corona patients were counted in Saxony's hospitals on Monday.

The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in one week (incidence) was 203.
