Two US authorities have recommended an immediate stop to the use of Johnson & Johnson's coronavirus vaccine because of reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.

They looked at blood clots in six women shortly after vaccination, the Disease Control and Prevention Agency (CDC) and the FDA said on Tuesday.

As of April 12, more than 6.8 million doses of the vaccine had been administered in the United States.

As the "New York Times" reports, six women were affected by complications from blood clots.

The women were in the age group 18 to 48. One of them died and another is in critical condition in the hospital

"As a precaution, we recommend taking a break from using this vaccine," the paper quoted Dr. Peter Marks from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Although these complications are extremely rare, they now need to be clarified.

Johnson & Johnson shares fell around three percent after the news became known and before the US IPO.

Great hope rested worldwide on the vaccine: it only requires a single vaccination.
