A one-year-old elephant was lifted from the well where she fell thanks to a rescue operation that lasted more than four hours in India on Saturday.
The animal was part of a herd of around 20 heads, reports

The group was about to enter a forest in the village of Bisushola, in the Indian state of West Bengal, when the baby elephant fell into the cavity more than four meters deep on Friday.
It was then around 9:30 p.m.
The rest of the herd stayed behind to watch over the baby, initially making it impossible for the rangers to intervene, said Rabinarayan Mohanty, one of them.
The agents had gone to the village after being warned by the inhabitants.
Efforts to free the elephant calf were finally able to begin after the herd had dispersed.

Hoisted with a string
Staff monitoring the forest area used a bulldozer to rescue the young female.
With the construction machine, the game wardens dug a large ditch in the ground near the well.
Thanks to their work, the elephant was able to be hoisted out of the hole with the help of strings and join the other members of its herd.

A video of the operation posted on Twitter by BBC News Hindi shows that the young animal struggled strongly when he was at the bottom of the well, but also when he was extracted from it.
The release of the little female was cheered by the crowd gathered to witness the rescue.
