US President Joe Biden will participate in a virtual summit Monday with leaders of the country's major electronics and auto groups on the global semiconductor shortage to discuss with them how to strengthen sourcing and manufacturing in the USA.

The White House has announced that Joe Biden will join the meeting "briefly", chaired by White House Economic Council Director Brian Deese, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo .

The participation of 19 companies has been announced.

The CEOs of automakers Ford and General Motors, US technology groups Alphabet, parent company of Google, and Intel, are to be present, as well as Mark Liu, executive chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), one major semiconductor manufacturers.

Officials in the Biden administration also intend to advocate for their $ 2 trillion investment plan, presented at the end of March and which will be the subject of fierce negotiations in Congress over the coming months.

Strengthening semiconductor manufacturing in the country is one of them.

communication equipment (internet box, computers, telephones), for which demand jumped with the pandemic, were the first to be affected by this global shortage.

The automotive industry is now the most visible victim with a greatly slowed down production.

General Motors and Ford have thus been forced, on several occasions, to temporarily suspend production lines.
