Hanover (dpa) - The start of the mandatory corona self-tests for schoolchildren and teachers was chaotic from the point of view of the Lower Saxony school management association.

Some schools received far too few test kits, some the wrong ones, said the association's managing director, Rene Mounajed, on Monday.

"That is completely unprofessional."

Many school administrators are angry.

Mounajed criticized the communication of the Ministry of Education as being far too short-term and unclear.

The first day after the Easter holidays was organized differently.

In some schools only test kits were given out, there was no instruction or emergency care.

Other schools only offered emergency care, while others started teaching without testing the children.

"Here everyone does what they think is right," says Mounajed.

From this Monday on, children, adolescents and school staff will have to test themselves for the corona virus at home twice a week before classes begin.

The schools distribute so-called lay tests for the front nasal area, which show the result after around 15 minutes.

By the beginning of April, the state of Lower Saxony had bought around 13 million test kits from various providers for state employees and schools.
