Leipzig (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Minister of Health Petra Köpping was vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine on Monday.

"I'm also here to show that Astrazeneca is a very good vaccine that simply ensures that we do not get seriously ill," said the SPD politicians in the Leipzig vaccination center at the New Fair.

She wanted to encourage other people to get vaccinated, even if she could understand that some are unsettled about Astrazeneca.

Since last Thursday, people over 60 have been able to register for vaccinations with Astrazeneca in the Saxon vaccination portal.

“By noon on Monday, 44,500 had already been awarded.

In addition, a further 18,000 appointments were offered over the weekend.

It is worth going to the appointment portal, ”said Kai Krannich from the regional association of the German Red Cross (DRK).

Köpping (62) had the vaccination appointment on Monday together with the rector of the University of Leipzig, Prof. Beate Schücking.

"The advantages of Astrazeneca outweigh so immensely that you should definitely get vaccinated," explained the general practitioner.

Even the first dose offers a certain degree of self-protection and people who have been vaccinated are less likely to infect others.

Köpping had initially been informed about the dangers of vaccination by vaccination doctor Jannik Winckler.

She then released her right arm and received the injection.

"He did it very well," the minister praised the doctor.

She then went to a waiting room for about 15 minutes and then left the vaccination center without any symptoms.
