The Côte-d'Or gendarmes were alerted Friday evening by a woman.

According to this, her ex-husband had just confided to her that he had "killed his current companion and that he was going to put an end to her life", as the Dijon prosecutor's office clarified on Monday in a press release.

When the gendarmes went to the victim's home, in Beire-le-Châtel (Côte-d'Or), they discovered the lifeless body of a 46-year-old woman stabbed, with two bloody kitchen knives on the places.

The vehicle of her spouse, then actively sought, was found empty about sixty kilometers away, on the edge of the A6 motorway, near Pouilly-en-Auxois (Côte-d'Or).

The body of the 46-year-old man was discovered shortly afterwards, at the foot of a motorway viaduct "from which he had obviously just thrown himself", explains the Dijon prosecutor's office.

"About fifteen wounds in the thorax and neck"

An autopsy, carried out on Sunday, revealed that the body of the forties bore "about fifteen wounds caused by two bladed weapons", located "in the thorax and neck", adds the prosecution.

No complaint or ongoing procedure has been found for previous domestic violence within this couple, continues the same source, who however notes that this man was sentenced in July 2017 to a day-fine for acts of violence against his ex-wife.

He was also fined in March 2019 for carrying out archaeological excavations without authorization.

He was summoned to the Dijon Criminal Court in September for theft and he was currently the subject of a criminal composition for irregular possession of collector's weapons.

In 2020, 90 women were killed by their spouse or ex-spouse in France, against 146 in 2019, according to the government count.
