Jerusalem / Burlingame (dpa) - The Intel subsidiary Mobileye is bringing its robot car technology to driverless delivery vans that are due to start regular operations in 2023.

The vehicle developer Udelv wants to bring more than 35,000 of its self-driving vans to the market by 2028, as the companies announced on Monday.

Among other things, the rectangular cars are to be used on the so-called last mile for deliveries to customers.

Mobileye, headquartered in Jerusalem, is one of several developers of autonomous driving technology who are hoping for a place in future vehicles.

This also includes large car manufacturers and industry suppliers, Google's sister company Waymo, Apple and various start-ups.

Mobileye tests its systems with cameras and laser radars in Germany, among other places.

Technology from the company acquired by Intel in 2017 is also used in many driver assistance systems in today's cars.

Mobileye boss Amnon Shashua was convinced that the deal with Udelv will be one of many.

Particularly after the corona crisis gave online retail a strong boost, a continuously increasing demand for delivery vehicles is also expected.
