Regensburg (dpa / lby) - Two real estate entrepreneurs are invited as witnesses in the party donation process against the former OB candidate of the CSU, Christian Schlegl, in Regensburg.

The men are due to testify in the district court today.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the 48-year-old defendant of violating the political party law, aiding and abetting tax evasion and unofficial false testimony.

The process involves, among other things, campaign donations amounting to 100,000 euros from the real estate industry, the origin of which is said to have been concealed by means of straw men and bills.

The assumption of election campaign expenses in the amount of almost 60,000 euros by a real estate company is also said to have been disguised by means of bogus invoices.

Schlegl ran against the then SPD candidate Joachim Wolbergs in the 2014 municipal elections in Regensburg.

Wolbergs won the runoff election.

This has already had to face two processes - also in connection with party donations from the construction industry.

In July 2019 he was sentenced in two cases of taking advantage and in June 2020 in one case of bribery.

The politician was acquitted of numerous other allegations.
