Hamburg (dpa / lno) - In the fire in an apartment in the Hamburg district of Billstedt, several people were injured on Sunday.

The two residents of the affected apartment on the first floor of the apartment building jumped out of the window before the emergency services arrived, said fire department spokesman Jan Ole Unger.

One of them suffered severe burn injuries.

The man was taken to a hospital.

Unger spoke of a “highly complex human rescue event”.

When the fire brigade arrived, residents on both sides of the building called for help.

Firefighters brought eight people to safety with the help of ladders.

Six of them were treated by rescue workers with suspected smoke inhalation.

The fire brigade was on Sunday around 4 p.m.

The apartment burned out completely, as the spokesman said.

More than 75 firefighters were on duty.

They were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other apartments.

The fire brigade did not provide any information about the cause of the fire.
