Cagliari / Regensburg (dpa) - The German aid ship "Alan Kurdi" is allowed to set sail again for the time being after about six months of blockade in Italy, as the operator organization Sea-Eye announced on Sunday in Regensburg.

A court on the island of Sardinia had ruled in an urgent decision that the "Alan Kurdi" could no longer be detained by the authorities, but could go to Spain for maintenance.

«This is an interim success;

the process does not end there », explained Gorden Isler from Sea-Eye.

The organization had taken action against the arrest of the rescue ship by the Italian coast guard on October 9, 2020.

After a hearing on Wednesday, the administrative court in Cagliari passed the decision on Friday, it said.

According to Sea-Eye, the hearing in the main matter, where a decision will be made on the legality of the determination, was set for November 3, 2021.

The coast guard had stopped the "Alan Kurdi" after several missions to rescue boat migrants in Olbia on Sardinia.

Sea-Eye interprets this as part of a strategy by the Italian authorities.

According to the organization, they wanted to slow down the civilian sea rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean.

The determination also means a high financial burden for Sea-Eye, since there must still be a crew on the ship.

When exactly the "Alan Kurdi" will leave for Spain is not yet certain, said Isler.

Italy has already checked various private ships in ports several times and stopped them for a long time due to alleged security deficiencies.
