The Association of Rural Mayors of France (AMRF) rejected the recommendations of the Scientific Council for the organization of regional and departmental elections.

The Council recommends in particular "to solicit people vaccinated" to hold the offices, and suggests that the vote be held outside.

The Association of Rural Mayors of France (AMRF) rejects the recommendations of the Scientific Council for the organization of the ballot for regional and departmental elections, according to a letter from their president Michel Fournier consulted on Saturday by AFP.

In particular, the demand that members of polling stations be vaccinated is considered "unacceptable".

In an opinion delivered on March 29 to Matignon, the Scientific Council recommended "to solicit vaccinated people", "that is to say older people", to run the offices.

The vote could take place "outside" and the holding of the poll "will require a strict cleaning" of the schools mobilized, also suggested the Scientific Council.

"Imposing such provisions on local elected officials is hardly compatible with the practice observed in rural municipalities, where it is sometimes complex to find a number of assessors without mobilizing municipal staff," wrote Michel Fournier in a letter to Prime Minister Jean Castex.

Mayors must decide by Monday noon on health measures

The AMRF is also concerned about the idea of having members of the polling stations tested 48 hours before the election, stressing that a number of active people are among them.

The government asked all the mayors on Friday to vote by Monday noon on health measures for the regional and departmental polls on June 13 and 20.

He confirmed last week that he favored "at this stage" the maintenance of these dates, on which he also asked for their opinion of the parties, political groups and presidents of the assemblies.

On this issue, the position of the AMRF is that the ballot can be held on the dates scheduled if the territories concerned are not confined.
