Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman poured out his anger at the referee for not counting a penalty kick during the 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish Premier League on Saturday, a result that kept him out of the triple title race.

The Catalan team demanded two penalty kicks in the last minutes while trying to equalize, and Martin Braithwaite fell on the ground both times under pressure from Ferlan Mendy.

"If you were a Barcelona fan and watched this match, you would definitely feel angry at the two referee’s decisions. It was a very clear penalty kick, and after that only 4 minutes of overtime was counted," the Dutch coach told Movistar.

Koeman, who was also furious when his team lost 3-1 to Real Madrid last October with the help of a controversial penalty kick, ended the interview early after he asked a Movistar reporter for his opinion of the second game.

"Once again, we have to accept the matter and be quiet ... In Spain there is no mouse (video technology)."

He pointed out that the referee "added 4 minutes overtime, but he alone wasted two minutes in order to repair the communication devices on his hand."

Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos put Real Madrid ahead with two goals in the first half, and Oscar Mengiza scored Barcelona's only goal after an hour of play.

Lionel Messi hit the post from a corner kick in the first half, while Elash Moriba's shot rebounded off the crossbar in the last minute of stoppage time.

In addition to his anger at the referee, Koeman admitted that his team started the match in a bad way.

"In the first half, we did not play well in attack or defense. We were better in the second half, and all I ask is for the referee to make the right decisions," he said.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said it was unfair to say his team won because of the penalty kick.

"We should be very happy with our performance, and we cannot say that this is because of the referee," the French coach added. "We have deserved victory."

"The referee said it was not a penalty kick because it was not. The most important thing from our point of view is what we did on the field. We started the game in an excellent way, then we faced some difficulties because Barcelona are a great team, but we had many opportunities to score the third goal. It was a deserved victory. "
