Luby (dpa) - In the Bohemian part of the Vogtland the earth shook slightly on Saturday.

The strongest vibration was registered with a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale, as announced by the Geophysical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Seismic activity in the west of the Czech Republic is picking up again after a short break, it said.

The epicenter was near the town of Luby (Schönbach), which is on the Saxon border near the spa town of Bad Brambach.

That is about one kilometer further north than usual.

"It was as if someone had stomped on the wooden ceiling," reported an eyewitness, according to the CTK news agency.

Swarm tremors often occur in the region, i.e. a large number of mostly smaller tremors over a longer period of time.

In 1985 an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale occurred in the area around Cheb, which caused major property damage.
