The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) said, on Friday, that it had "carried out a large-scale operation to combat human smuggling and migrant trafficking, which resulted in the arrest of 195 persons."

"Morocco played an important role in the operation, which was carried out between March 28 and April 2," Interpol stated on its official website.

He added, "The operation was carried out with the support of 24 countries of origin, transit or destination, on the African and European continents," following up, "and 500 victims of human trafficking were freed."

According to the organization, of the 195 detainees, 88 people are accused of human trafficking and 63 are accused of migrant smuggling.

Interpol stated, "Morocco played an important role in this operation, as it received the Operations Coordination Unit and carried out 49 arrests."

He stated that the Kingdom of Morocco "provided intelligence, which enabled the Spanish authorities to arrest two major smugglers known to facilitate the transfer of clandestine immigrants from the African continent."
